I have been getting back to my watercolours this week...sometimes I need to be inspired by a colour or something I see to really enjoy this watery and rebellious medium!
The plums are painted in my favourite colours for painting, I love juicy pinks, reds and purples.
This is a black bumble bee that I found resting on my garden wall. They are not particularly aggressive although they look quite frightening...it was the size of my thumb and very black and shiny.
When you get up close the black becomes a vivid blue in the wings. But I didn't get too near, I'm not that brave....I zoomed in with my camera and took some photos!

Perfect medium for juicy fruit. Love your plums and intrigued by the unknown to me specie of bee
Your bees look like our flies! Love the colors on the plums!!
Fabulous work Cathy. I am OK with Bees, but not wasps. If you see a bee on the floor looking tired, apparently they need sugar and water. So I've heard that you should put a spoon of sugared water next to them and let them drink and then they will soon fly off again :0)
Those plums look good enough to eat too :0)
It was the middle of a very hot day (39°) so the bee was probably feeling exhausted. Thank you for the kind comments!
Love your juicy painting of the bumblebee! I always plan to be that loose and then get tighter and tighter.
Sketched with a Sicilian artist from Palermo at Urban Sketchers New York last week and thought of you.
Love these, especially the bee! I have a soft spot for bugs, so to see this beautiful little guy was a treat. You handled the water so nicely on his wings.
Cathy, thank you so much for your comment on my work. And I love your black bumblebee!!
Kathryn
Jenna - I admire the bugs' beauty and detail but I prefer to keep them at arm's length!
Thank you for the comments :-)
Both are fabulous, Cathy! The plums look wonderfully juicy. And I love the bumblebee!
Both lovely sketches Cathy. The plums look delicious.
