One Step at a Time

'Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible
into the visible'
Anthony Robbins

It's the beginning of another year and many people are making resolutions and if you're like me your hopeless at keeping them.   I like to have goals to work towards instead, to keep me  going in the right direction.
I've been  looking at ways to make sure I stay focused on my goals this year and found a few tips:

  • Only set goals you're interested in.  As much as possible you have to set goals for yourself, so think about what your really want.

  • Write your goals down to keep them in mind.  Have a way to keep remembering them: stickers on the fridge, bathroom mirror or computer.  Create a 'mantra' to say out loud, choose 3 - 4 important words to repeat to yourself.

  • Review your goals from time to time, it helps keep you motivated.  Sometimes your goals have to be adjusted too, life never goes to plan!

  • Set  deadlines, a month, 6 months, 2 years.  Make a plan of how you intend to get to your goals.  Decide on some some easy steps to get you going.

Remember sometimes our goals help us to achieve things that at one time seemed impossible.

Have you thought about your goals for 2014, what words would you use?

Having goals to work towards is a great idea. I keep a list of things I like to paint, and look at this list occasionally to get inspiration.

I like the story that your painting tells, actually the many possible stories it could tell, depending on the viewer. That's my favorite kind of art. Good advice about goal setting too!

Great thoughts Cathy. I too echo Katherine's thoughts on your painting. Does really tell the story and go with your post so well. Hope you have great success in reaching your goals this year.

You seem like a person who keeps her goals, your painting is so good and you seem so organized. Thanks for sharing that you too have trouble keeping your goals.
My strategy this year is to take tiny imperfect step toward my goals every day.
I tell myself I only have to do something for 5 minutes and I end up doing a lot more. Happy New Year.

That's a good plan Cathy. I review my goals every week. It's the best way to stay on track.

I've set my goals and always make them SMART - specific measurable achievable relevant timebound.

Anthony Robbins is the best! His voice, his enthusiasm! He makes me want to get up and conquer life! Wonderful post.

Did you do this particular painting with this post in mind? or did you have it already and decide it would be the perfect illustration? It was a great match!

Thank you Raena, it's an older sketch/illustration but it fitted the theme well!
