Open Door

One of my regular sketching spots is the railway station carpark in the nearest town. It's a good  way of passing the time while I wait for one of my family to arrive, making the most of some excellent views of an old 17th century villa.
This is the 'back' door painted from one of my sketches and perhaps a door used once by the servants.  I found it curious that the door was slightly open yet there wasn't anyone about.

The open door adds to the mystery and atmosphere of this lovely painting. I think it's the ghost of one of the kitchen wenches!

Lovely painting of the door and I enjoyed your musings about it.

I like the look of watery patina on the doors. I especially love the softness of all your work...

Beautiful looking door! I really like the way it portrays an opening to another space/dimension :)

I love the color of the door and how you made the interior dark. What color paint did you use on the door?

Lovely Cathy, wish we had doors like that here

Why this is neat - we almost never see paintings of doors with one slightly open. It adds intrigue for sure. Love the way you painted the surrounding stonework!

Ohhh! I love doors. Especially old and interesting looking like they have a story ones. Very nice!

I like that your sketches have the same soft qualities of Italiian buildings, you capture it beautifully. Your sketchbook post was so true, seeing with your eyes and drawing makes you really know your subject. I am sure your sketchbooks are a delight to look through, your drawings are so lovely.
Great pictures of Etna too.

A lovely, delicate sketch but also one with a slight sense of drama. Wonder if some ghostly servants still use that door occasionaly!!
