Yesterday I went sketching with the Urban Sketchers. We had permission to sketch inside the beautiful 17th century Palazzo Mirto. I only managed one sketch as I spent a lot of time just looking...and there is so much to see. I sketched looking into the Pompadour sitting room...it has decadently elegant silk walls embroidered with flowers.
Walking through the Palazzo is like a journey through the past. It was inhabited until 1982 and the furnishings and decorations have remained mostly intact. I loved the beautiful (and enormous) Murano chandeliers.
There wasn't time to sketch the stables, kitchens or bedrooms so we have asked to be allowed back in later this week. Although Palazzo Mirto is open to the public...painting and photographs are normally not allowed. I can't wait to go again!

What a wonderful opportunity! Your sketches, and your photographs, are exquisite.
How wonderful to be able to go there to paint, I wouldn't even begin to know where to start. I enjoy reading your adventures and seeing your lovely paintings
What a wonderful opportunity. You could spend weeks finding things to sketch. Well done can see you enjoyed the painting
The hardest part was deciding what to sketch! Thanks for the comments :-)
You are so lucky! Your painting will always serve as a reminder of the event and I too would have used most of my time just being there.
I think I would still be deciding what to sketch...
Knowing my luck, I'd probably spill ink everywhere and never be let back in...ha ha.
Lovely sketch by the way :-)
Stew.
