'Perennial' for Illustration Friday.
Perennial - Lasting for an indefinately long time, enduring.
These are Doric columns up on a hillside archaeological site not far from where I live. These columns are perennial, lasting for for thousands of years under wind, fire and rain.
There is not much left of the original town of Soluntum built by the Phoenicans in about 700 BC, but a few ruins remain from the Greeks and the Romans. Mostly fragments of walls, foundations and a few mosaics.
You can still see the traces of two ancient roads and the grid pattern of the classical Greek style town.
When I'm walking along one of the roads on the site I can almost hear the busy town and feel the people who lived there, I can't think of anything more enduring than that!

I love your work, Cathy, partly because it's just plain wonderful, but also because you have so much fabulous history for inspiration. I hope we'll see much much more!
Very perennial...and very beautiful. Your colors are (again, as usual :)), beautiful!
You are so fortunate to live in a place with such a rich history and beauty. We are so fortunate that your beautiful art lets us get peeks of it. Thank you! nancy
This is a beautiful sketch and you've added so much to it by telling its background. Thanks!
very nice work, indeed!
What a great idea! I really like your use of color. I am working on my perennial illustration at this moment, but I decided to focus more on a floral approach.
just beautiful! we used to play a game with my friends in greece- discribing people by column styles- i was a Doric one... love your work : )
Beautiful as always! Your gorgeous cool shadows always catch my eye. I think you should coordinate artists' holidays in your incredibly picturesque area!
Yet another excellent stones drawing =) Love the shadings, love the colors. Beautiful work Cathy!
Beautiful work! It all looks so peaceful the way you draw/paint it.
You have given this architectural treasure so much grace and beauty! It is absolutely stunning!!!
Your interpretation of the theme is stunning.
How fortunate you are, Cathy, to be living amidst all that ancient history! I felt that same sort of "presence" when my sister and I were visiting Mycenae.
What a fabulous response to the theme! I agree with others: your use of colour is always spot on.

Beautiful painting.... love those colors!
Beautiful drawing! Sicily must be a fantastic place - everyone I know who's been there was enchanted. The mosaïc in your photo is gorgeous, too.
