I love to sketch hidden corners and forgotten places. This is the 'back' gate of one of our seventeenth century villas and although not forgotten it certainly isn't seen very often as the gardens are rarely open to the public. I've just found out that a statue has been stolen from the long driveway up to this villa, which is a terrible shame, another little piece of history gone.

Beautiful! I just love your work.
One of those gems, love it when you find a place like that. Beautiful painting and you captured again the light so well.
Lovely painting Cathy.
I have taken lots of photographs of gateways and 'interesting corners' etc with a view to drawing them but somehow never get round to it. Must try harder!
Such a shame about the theft
I love that you see a painting in every corner. I need to train myself to look harder. Really like this.
So very pretty. Your colors always amaze me. Love the little splatter-touches, too.
Wonderful detail. Makes me want to wander into the garden for a good look around. :-)
Reminds me of walking down some little country lanes on our guided tour in Tuscany in 2011, there were some really nice garden entrances. Your stonework is lovely in your painting
This beautiful little painting looks so sparkling and fresh and like you just dashed it off. Its an amazing skill to make something look so spontaneous.
Such a lovely painting of a hidden gem. I must think of looking around corners too. Thanks for the inspiration
It looks lovely. How sad about the theft - but all too common now!
Who would steal a statue? And why? That is just mean. This is a beautiful hidden corner, I love the light watercolours.
Lovely delicate style and color!
What a beautiful little image. I love the look of the mingling greens alongside the more structured form of a pedestal or fence.
