One of my favourite lunchtime sketch locations is just behind the original city walls looking through a norman gateway to the sea. But it's not the sea that catches my eye (well not as much) but the coloured windows set into the wall like jewels. The windows are very old but strangely the colour comes from what looks like plastic on the inside, possibly to protect the inside from the elements. Like a lot of beautiful places here the building is empty and only noticed by passing tourists.

Cathy, how delightful your sketch and splashy, cheerful colour!
I really like how you bled the colors from the windows out onto the walls. I notice more and more how refusing to contain things in their "proper" places and letting them intermingle gives paintings life and expressiveness.
Lovely textures on the wall and the windows are intriguing. You make it look a lovely painterly place.
A lovely piece, your loose approach rendering the colored stonework is really nice
Love the way you capture the walls of the building. I can feel the layers and wonderful changes in color.
You are so lucky to have these wonderful sights to sketch. Beautiful light and textures.
Beautiful textures and lighting!
You captured the light so well! I love the running watercolours. How come such a beautiful building is empty?
No money Koosje, what little there was has been used up on other projects and eaten away by the mafia.
This is such a nice sketch and I love your explanation of how the windows get their color from the materials inside.
Are you sure you can't make it to Tuscany for dinner in May? I'd love to meet you.
Gorgeous colors. You have such a keen eye for composition and texture. Love it!
Little treasures!
love those cute windows!
