Sketchbook Pages

Some sketches of my favourite places, you've probably seen before here on my blog.  Why do I like to sketch the same view?  The answer is very simple...there is usually a very nice bar opposite with comfortable seating and a bit of shade!
The top sketch is a windmill at the saltpans near Trapani.   It's a beautiful spot on a natural lagoon with small islands as a backdrop.

The Hunting Lodge in the Ficuzza woods is another favourite and yes another little bar opposite.

This time we got to have a look around the inside of the old house and hear how it was used for 17th century 'racey' parties!

Love how you captured the sunlight. I would love a good bar across from such beautiful buildings!

Drawing and painting is more pleasant when there's a comfortable seat and some shade... I also sometimes choose my subjects this way! I love both your works, they reflect so well the romantic side of Sicily!

Don't you love a clock tower? I am always drawn to them--what is it about immortalizing time, the most ephemeral but the most constant? I agree with Shirley--the view from the local Starbucks is nowhere near so beguiling! Beautiful job.

You are so funny. But, you certainly have a good point about finding the best sketching spot. Lovely pieces.

I'll bet those recy parties were as racy as anything we have today! I'd love to look around an old house like this. I love your trees and the wonderful shade under them. It's a nice deep shade which I seldom get but it makes it seem like a very welcoming spot to get out of the sun that is shining down on the house. On the windmill I like how you managed the feeling of movement in the blades.

You made me laugh at this one! I do the same thing! I will walk around and see great views, but with no where to sit comfortably and out of the way, so I move on to the area with the seat! The view I end up with doesn't always end up as good as these though! Well done!

As you know, our Sunday walks always include a cuppa - it just wouldn't be the same without one...... unfortunately we don't have lovely little bars to visit post-walks!!

I like the asymmetry of these paintings...esp. the windmill. The tree is gorgeous. I really do love your technique.
