Inside My Sketchbook

I haven't had time to paint this week but I have managed to slip in a few sketches.  This a tower which is the original part of the villa where we had our exhibition.  I sat and sketched this from the window of a beautiful room much to the interest of everyone.  I took two of my old sketchbooks and left them by my paintings... many people stopped and looked  and enjoyed them.

This sketch of roof tops was from high up.   I also took loads of photos and I hope to make a bigger painting from them and my sketches.  The smoke from a nearby bakery chimney added a bit of atmosphere!

I slipped into the art museum in Palermo and this is the Spanish Gothic doorways inside.  Students from the city's school of tourism were giving free tours so I took them up on it.  The young man that took me round very bravely explained everything in English even though I'd  admitted to speaking fluent Italian.  I thought he might need the practice...am I cruel?

Your sketches are very interesting, they might be three first steps towards the making of three wonderful paintings!

One day they'll invent something with which you can draw the scent of the bakery, I just know they will. ;-)
Lovely sketches!

Had to laugh when I read your tour guide treatment, too funny and I do the same thing when I go back home visiting...
Great views from the room and I love that tower, you sure have fantastic places to sketch around you.

Yes, they are so lovely and I enjoyed reading about where you were, etc. As for the tour guide ... I think it was good for him, and wasn't he brave to do it! nancy

Practise is essential, you were just being generous! Your sketches are great. I love the one with the roof, and those old tiles with their special colors - we have them in Provence too - I've always wanted to draw them but always balked at the difficulty...

Yes...there's something so atmospheric about rooftops--and you've captured it beautifully. Love these sketches!

Nice sketches. I think the kid had a chance to try out his English for real and probably enjoyed the exercise.
