Little Weed

I found this weed/ wild plant growing on the side of the road (dusty lane).  I'm not an expert on plants so I can't tell you what it is but it caught my eye because of it's coloured leaves.
I started off being sensible...see top right, then started playing with the colours I'd mixed and watching them merge.  I find myself enjoying watercolour more and more, but I still like doing all the other stuff too so I couldn't choose!  It's nice to have the variety of different media to keep the inspiration and creative juices going.

If you're a certain age and watched Bill & Ben you'll know that this plant looks nothing like the real 'little weed'!

It's very pretty, and I like the blending of the colors. I must say, when I first glanced at it, it reminded me of poison ivy. But I looked closer, and it doesn't have the typical arrangement of 3 leaves. Whatever it is, I like it! nancy

Well Cathy, I Love This. Could that be anything to do with being of a certain age? I think Little Weed looked more like a sunflower.
Going back to your painting - what you have done with the watercolour is Fab (see...I AM of a certain age). The merge of colour is wonderful. I often think I should be painting and drawing some of the wildflowers (ok...weeds) I come across.
Ace artwork.

Beautiful colors! I can't recognize many plants, so I won't be any help here, but it's lovely anyway!

Beautiful! I love the way that the bold blending of colors looks so fanciful and yet so realistic at the same time.

You are very good at watercolor...I can see why you are so drawn to it. Your colors and technique are so beautiful!

No need whatsoever to make choices when you do everything so beautifully! You've really immortalized this little plant!

Cathy, it looks like basil--the flower, the shape of the leaves, and the colors look like Opal Basil. Pinch the leaf (if you still have it) and see if it is. You did a nice job of painting it!

It's lovely and delicate, with beautiful colours. Yes, I'm old enough to remember Little Weed!!

It's too pretty to be a weed.

You can tell you had fun with this and the colours & freedom are lovely.

Thank you for all the comments!
Stew - Little Weed had a smiley face too, that's how I knew this plant wasn't her!
Elizabeth - thank you for the vote of confidence...I'm still trying to learn about watercolour.

Melissa - Now you mention it, it does look a bit like Basil, but I pinched it and it smells horrible...just like a weed!

Lovely painting ... even if your were 'playing' .. the end result is very pretty.

I think it may be coleus (which we grow for bedding here in the UK). The flower looks right and coleus leaves come in a wide variety of colours.

Isn't it fun! I love watching the paint mix on the paper. This is gorgeous - I really like those greens and purples together.
Oh, and the orange below is beautiful too!

I've had a look and I think it might be a wild variety of 'Coleus', thank you Sue!

Lover it!!! The colours of it, brilliant, love how the greens and the purples, how they almost melt in to each other. Why do we call them weeds, so many of them are so pretty? It reminds me of a plant (also a weed) that I find so neat here, and it also has very pretty purple leaves in the fall.

Beautiful work, as always : )

Love these colors and it does indeed look very delicate. Lovely leaf shapes too. Sometimes I want to try watercolor but I'm trying to stick to one thing for now. :)

A beautiful painting and I love how you have let it flow. I am having a watercolour session at the minute too. I find it very difficult to stick to one medium. Sadly, my watercolour and coloured pencil pieces look like the work of two different artists whereas you have managed to retain your style.

Absolutely gorgeous and my idea of what watercolor is supposed to look like. ...if only I could manage!
