Lounging Lizard

It's very hot and sticky here, not my favourite sort of weather!  But there are some who appreciate the sun and here is one of them.
The lizard was sitting in our outside sink and stayed quite still for a few minutes, just enough time for me to get my camera.  I've been trying for ages to get a good lizard close up as a reference but normally they move so fast.  This one did actually look a bit old, but then how do you tell the age of a lizard?

Great lizard - quite cute in your painting although I never liked them moving close to me when we lived in Texas.

Hi Cathy,

You can keep the hot and sticky; I've got all I can handle. But I'd love to have this fella in my garden or on the front stoop.

You've captured him very well,

xoxo

VERY hot and sticky here, too . . . lizards do seem to find that gratifying. Your little old guy is stunning! You rendered him beautifully!!!

I'm sure he is just this handsome in real life! Great sketch! I enjoy our lizards here in Maryland but they aren't so colorful.

As usual, you have some beautiful colors going on here. Lizard age: good question. I wonder.

I'm a bit behind on my blog visits, but I'm amazed at these last 4 pieces that you've done since I stopped by! Love the charming "remedy" botanicals, as well as the tomato (Just sitting down to draw some tomatoes myself!), and the airport piece is beautifully evocative and moody. And as for this guy, I love lizards, and he (she?) is so handsome. Lovely illustration!

What a gorgeous lizard! We have been hot and sticky in New Hampshire, USA, but we don't have any lizards this interesting. Beautifully done.

I would imagine that speed is one way to tell the age of a lizard. Colorado has been unusually sticky these last couple of weeks - we are apparently in some sort of monsoon pattern, so it's been all thunderstorms and hail and mugginess. Pretty unusual for such a dry place.

Your lizard looks so lifelike, as if he's ready to jump off the screen!

Gorgeous lizard. We have lizards here in Sweden but they are at most 10 cm long and grey/sandy colored and move so fast that there is no change of capturing them.

He's magnificent - your sketch shows the colours and textures so well. I love the sinuous way they arrange themselves -a perfect artists' model!

Wonderful lizard! I hate hot moist weather too, thankfully it has cooled down a lot here.

Fantastic drawing, he looks perfectly fat and his colors are beautiful! I only managed to photograph one once, a big green lizard, but didn't think to draw it ; ) !

I love the bright green against the purply shades in his/her legs. Beautiful details in this.

It's very pretty and would be pleased with the portrait! I love all the colors you used, and you totally caught the delicacy of its little fet and toes! nancy

Oh, my second favorite creature: lizards!! (Cats are my favorite.) We address them as Lizardo around my yard, and they all have the same name. You've done this one so masterfully...and the pears are gorgeous too. I also love your compositional sense.

Thanks for commenting your appreciation of my post and art recently...oh yes, my whole body reacts when I see large racks of paint or displays of colored pencils! I suppose it's a form of fore-play! (As in, before we 'play' with our beloved art supplies!) :-)

Best wishes from sunny and hot California! Susan
