This is a large coloured pencil piece, which had to be photographed instead of using the scanner. I haven't ever got a decent photograph of work in coloured pencil, the subtle detail that can be achieved just doesn't show up.
The statue is outside the town hall in the next village, the beautiful but crumbly17th century Villa Filangeri.
What I really need is a good title for this piece of work...anybody got any good ideas?

This is really lovely, Cathy. Such detail in the statue, wall, and window! Is there a name from local lore that would be appropriate?
This is beautiful, if you have lost detail in scanning it must look amazing.
What about one of the Roman goddesses?
Minerva - goddess of wisdom, medicine & crafts.
Pomona who protected fruiting trees and gardens.
Hello Cathy,
I know what you mean - I always have trouble trying to photograph drawings & paintings. I even had problems scanning my stag drawing, I thought I would be able to scan it and it would look as good as the drawing but it doesn't.
I know what you should call your drawing - the same as I call it
AMAZING!
Stew.
It is so beautiful in the photo, I can only imagine what it would look like in person. Sorry I can't help with the name - but it makes me think of treasures of old times.
Wow, its amazing and I cant believe you did all that with colour pencils, its really stunning. She looks shy, a younger soul, like she over looking the grounds, protector or some kind of goddes of the gardens (I like what Sue P wrote about Minerva or Pomona).
Beautiful work!!!
Such impressive, gorgeous work! It truly is masterful!
This must be over-the-top amazing in person as the colours smooshed into the wall, that crisp shadow, the soft detail of the statue. Perfection.
Stunning Cathy! Can't think of an idea for a title but will if I get any ideas...
Simply awesome Cathy =) I absolutely love it! Not sure of the name though... I am sad in giving names to my art work myself :(
How about 'That Which Remains' or 'What Will Remain of Us?' (which is shamelessly stolen from the last line of 'An Arundel Tomb' by Larkin, hee hee.
Anyway, beautiful work Cathy, with lovely rich colour!
Oh - this is amazing!!
I have no title, but I do have total admiration for your work.
Just gorgeous! I am terrible with titles though, sorry.
This is an amazing piece! Beautiful colors and details. How about something like "Greet the Morning" because she is facing the light and the window shutters are thrown open to let in the light as if both the statue and someone inside the room are enjoying embracing the morning sunshine.
Truly lovely! How about "The Secret". It's very mysterious with the window open and her looking away.
First, I think the work is magnificent! Every part of it blows me away. I love the subtle colors in the wall, and the statue, and the shadow. The composition is excellent and the way you have framed the two main elements is totally unique.
Ideas:
Goddess of the Garden
Goddess at the Window
Guardian Goddess
The Watcher
Watcher at the Window
She Stands at the Window
I was going to say:
Lady Filangeri's Alabaster Guardian
Fabulous piece.
I would call her "Sentinel"
Thank you for the fantastic ideas, I don't know which one to choose!!
:)
To borrow from your own text description: "In the Next Village"
(I can tell you that there would not be a scene like this in the village next to mine!)
Despite the always disappointing 'camera as scanner' let-down, your talent still shines through.
This is a wonderful painting! The detail of the half ruined plaster is fantastic, but I find that the whole composition is really well done!
My suggestion for the title is: "The silent keeper".
Colored pencil? Wow, I thought it was a watercolor. Very nice. As far as names I would say Timekeeper.
this is an absolutely great piece... the way the shadow falls and the textures and the coloring on the wall. really nice work!
This is beautiful, Cathy. I like the subtle colors in the wall, as well as everything else! No name suggestions though--you've got some good ones already.
What a lovely piece Cathy! The colors are so beautifully subtle. :-)To me the statue looks like the patron goddess of the Villa. Perhaps she'll tell you her name as part of the title. ;-)
What a superb drawing! Does she have a name already?
Yes I chose 'The Silent Keeper' suggested by Lucia B. Thank you everyone for helping out, some of the suggested titles inspire me to draw some other local statues!
Oh I feel honoured! :-) Thank you Cathy and many compliments on your beautiful works!
