Fig and Chocolate Cake

Everyday matters  - Something you snack on
This is Buccellato, a sicilian cake made from pastry filled with dried figs, almonds, walnuts and dark chocolate. It's eaten mainly in the Christmas period, but I love it anytime.  I love to bite into it and find whole  pieces of nut and chocolate amongst the jammy figs.  I expect you can appreciate how difficult it was not to eat it!
We are lucky to have some really nice local bakeries where everything is freshly made every day.  I will have a go at sketching some of the traditional cakes and biscuits we have for the coming Carnival time...at great personal sacrifice of course!

This looks and sounds absolutely delicious. Is it only found in Sicily? (I'm going to Tuscany in the summer.)

Sounds (and looks!) SO mouthwatering! This truly must be an irresistible thing to draw - dried fruit, nuts and chocolate combined... yumyum!

very nice! I like the composition, with the pastry moving out of the picture.

Great sketch and it sounds like a wonderfu treat. Here in Michigan the snow is deep and the temperature is eight below zero Fahrenheit (sp?), but now you've taken my mind off the weather and I'm craving a big chunk of chocolate! LOL!

Mmmmmmm looks so good, my mouth is watering... Wish I could eat weat, but must only feast with my eyes and I cant tell you happy I am that you will do the big "sacrifice" for this project {I cant wait to feast my eyes on more bake goods}

Lovely painting, and cakes like this can be so hard to paint, but you did it really well.

I particularly like the shading, but it's really hard to concentrate on the drawing because of its edible qualities and figs, walnuts, almonds AND chocolate. Such a distraction.
Not to worry though, Sue just said she can make me look tall and thin so keep drawing scrumptious food.

Looks and sounds delicious! And if you must then go ahead and sacrifice by having all those cakes to draw - sounds like a tasty project!

Before you go creating more of these yummy sketches, please place a high calorie warning on your header. I'm gaining pounds just drooling over this!

Your drawing is beautiful - but I could resist the cake, as I don't like figs!
