Very strange Indeed!

Everyday Matters - draw something strange.
I saw this large seed pod on a tree at the Botanical gardens, I don't remember what it was called but it's leaves were large and shiny.  It has been re-named the 'smartie tree' for now, but I wouldn't recommend eating any of it!  I did sneakily pocket a few of these seeds and have planted them in pots.  I don't know if they will grow or not.... maybe they will grow into large man- eating flowers!

Utterly strange to me but it looks like a nice challenge to draw and I like how you've handled it.

I have no idea what this plant is but I love your sketch. If your seeds grow I hope they're just "man eaters," not "woman eaters!"

Wow, oddly beautiful. I have never seen a plant like this before either. Good luck with the seeds.

What a nice, odd plant - good choice for the challenge. I love the detail at the top of the seed pod.

You've done a wonderful job on this one, as always. I do happen to know what the plant is: Magnolia grandiflora, which is an evergreen tree native to the southern United States. Cool seeds, huh! I did a drawing of the seed pod awhile back. www.flickr.com/photos/edensketcher/4369126667/in/set-72157623451864086

I hope your seeds grow! I love your drawing - it reminds me of Victorian botanical books!

Is that ever so neat, I love finding unique and different seedpods... The colours are really bright and makes you just want to explore it even more so. Lovley drawing as always. Let us know how the seeds are doing.

Oh yes, definitely magnolia. We have several and they are beautiful...first with their giant flowers and then these interesting fruits. Only...they make a real mess for you to clean up!

Strange and beautiful at the same time. Those red things do look like jelly beans - better to grow jelly beans than man-eaters! lol nancy

Very strange! But you rendered it really well. :-) It does look like it might hatch man-eating flowers. ;-)

Definitely fits in with strange, but I couldn't tell you what it is. You've done a great job of sketching it, tho. :)
