Surf n' Sea

This month's Virtual Paintout is in Hawaii.  When I think of Hawaii I think of Surf, long beaches and palm trees and I knew what I wanted to draw, but I had a long walk ahead of me.  I searched the highways and byways for just the right place, and  there weren't really many people around to ask for directions!
In the end I found my surf shop, complete with surf boards outside along the Mehameha Highway.
Coloured pencil 15x21 cms (in my sketch book)

Wonderful! I am having to 'look' pretty hard to find what I think of as quintessential Hawaiian scenes.
Great find here, and excellent drawing!

This is fabulous Cathy, it epitomises Hawaii. Great colour and sense of strong sunlight.

Hawaii... as it's the weekend I think I'll go there now, virtually of course.

Did it take you a long time to find this scene? Very eye-catching. Love your darks and lights and the colors. The signs are fetching and the whole scene just epitomizes our concept of surfing the waves in Hawaii. Great job on your composition, drawing, and colors. Love it.

Thank you Ruth, I try to find something that feels as if I'm there. It always takes a least a couple of searches on Google street view.

The hidden girl behind the surfboard really gives this some personality. I love your work. Colored pencils are awesome and you use them so well! Beautiful shadows and lines. I think I'll try pencils for next month! You've inspired me!
