Daily Repairs

I often see this fisherman mending his nets.  He's always wearing a little hat and his face is craggy from the sun.  This time his friend spotted me taking photographs and called to him, I don't know whether he was pleased or not as I didn't wait to find out.  But I do know now that his name's Mimmo!
The best time to catch the fishermen is at lunchtime, when they start to prepare their nets for the evening.  This sketch is in mixed media but there are larger similar coloured pencil pieces on my website here.

beautifully captured! I like how you showed that he's working hard and concentrating, not looking at the camera means it gives the audience the opportunity and freedom imagine. =) Love it!

The lines on the boat are lovely--you have captured the shape well. This is a charming sketch.

He'd love it, for sure! You should make a little print and give it to him! ;D

I get caught taking photos of people all the time, and for some reason they seem to freak out a little more if they catch me sketching instead of photographing.

Great painting, Cathy. He almost looks like he's in position to row the boat. Boats are tricky, aren't they.
I get nervous about taking shots of people but one tip is to use a wide-angle lens (most pocket cameras are wide-angle anyway) and point to something to one side of the person. You still get them in the frame but they remain unaware that they're in the shot!

Really nice capture!

I love the fact that while the fisherman is catching fish, you are catching the fisherman! Another great sketch - perfectly proportioned, and I like the coloring of the boat.

Great sketch. YOu could always give him a print of the picture. It might be the best piece of art he's ever had. I love the viewpoint. I just went to see your gallery and I think everyone in Sicily would end up getting prints! What a wonderful collection. You do so well on the people too!
