Hidden Treasure

La Certosa (coloured pencil and watercolour)

After a couple of sketches from my car in the rain,  this is one that I re-did at home and added colour.  It's the first page of my new sketchbook, which will be dedicated to places/ scenes near where I live.
I have already sketched this villa from the otherside, see here .  It's such a shame to see something so beautiful hidden away behind suburban sprawl.  The part I've drawn is the only part you can see, between houses and behind a tall wooden fence.
I love cracked walls,  old brickwork and peeling paint, fortunately there isn't a shortage of that around here!
I'm hoping that I will fill my sketchbook fairly quickly as I've got lots of locations in mind.

I like this sketch because I like architectural drawings, but what really draws me in is the color. Nice job.

I second the color comment! I really like the combination of yellow(ish) and blue. And it just has this depth! All the little cracks... it looks very realistic!

Beautiful.

With areas like this, I'll have to invite myself to visit and we can sketch them together :D

Very nice, I love the way you used colors!

It's also a very neat idea to paint locations, I look forward to seeing more of them.

Cathy
This just breathes life, without taking away from its ancient 'self'. Pretty awesome for architecture! Well done. The Certosa di Padula is 30 minutes away from our home in Italy, Paestum a little over an hour away (and one of my favorite sites). You've inspired all kinds of thoughts with your beautiful work.

Oh how gorgeous. Those pastel tints make for such a pretty effect. How nice to have sunshine to sketch in, whilst we have nothing but snow or rain!

Cathy, some of the painting and Drawing channel videos are on Youtube, including those of Linda Kemp's.(Negative painting)
