More Time

EDM  268 was to draw something you need.  I thought about this a lot..what do I really need?
There are lots of things I 'think' I need, but when it comes to the crunch, what I really need is more TIME.
Time to do the things I love, like my art, time to spend with the people I care about, time to do all those things we keep meaning to do or the things we put off until tomorrow.
So how can you draw time?   I decided to draw my Dad's old watch, my Dad died a few years ago, but his watch is still ticking on and keeping perfect time.  There must be a moral in that somewhere!

Daily Repairs

I often see this fisherman mending his nets.  He's always wearing a little hat and his face is craggy from the sun.  This time his friend spotted me taking photographs and called to him, I don't know whether he was pleased or not as I didn't wait to find out.  But I do know now that his name's Mimmo!
The best time to catch the fishermen is at lunchtime, when they start to prepare their nets for the evening.  This sketch is in mixed media but there are larger similar coloured pencil pieces on my website here.

My Flexible Friend

Everyday Matters 267  was to draw something flexible, so here's my friend in a Yoga pose.  This shows how flexible  she has become doing Yoga and Pilates.  I have just started Pilates in the past few months and I am seeing and feeling the benefits already.
My friend  has been staying with me for the last couple of weeks, but now finds herself stranded due to the volcanic ash cloud over Europe and we don't know when she will be able to fly back to the uk.  It could be worse, at least she's got somewhere to stay, sunshine and cheap wine!

Tenerife - Buenavista del Nord

Mixed Media
16x30cms

My entry for The Virtual Paintout .  This month we were in the Canary Islands and I found lots of places straightaway that I would like to draw.  I chose this view up on a mountain top in Tenerife because I like the low clouds and colours.  I've never been to the Canary islands but it's much greener than I expected.  Each time I wander around somewhere on Google street I discover new things about place I've never visited.

Somewhere Sunny

Another entry for my Sicilian sketch book.  A lovely sunny corner to sit in my favourite garden, surrounded by lemon trees and flanked by two Rococò columns.   You can while away the afternoon here, imagining
how beautiful the garden originally looked.
Done in watercolour and coloured pencil.

Here's my entry for the Monthly sketch project . The photograph was supplied by ffyrebird.
I'd like one of these in my garden!

Something to cherish

Everyday matters 266 - draw something you cherish.  Here's an old photograph, blurred and yellowed with time.
It's my mum and dad, my 'little' brother and me  on the beach together many years ago.
I have all sorts of  treasures that I keep to remind me of when I was young, my grandparents, my children when they too were little, and what I really cherish are the memories they bring back.
